Leadership is closely tied to appreciation.

As head coach, Patrick Fischer first took charge of HC Lugano during the 2013/14 season before eventually taking over the Swiss national team in 2015. Fischer won a silver medal as an assistant coach in Stockholm in 2013 and once again as head coach in Copenhagen in 2018. In 2018, he was named Coach of the Year, and the team was honored as Team of the Year. The disappointment was immense when the Swiss national team, after a very convincing qualification round, was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Germany. At the 2022 World Championship, Switzerland entered the quarterfinals against the USA as the favorite but had to head home after a loss. Unbelievably, but unfortunately true, Switzerland was once again knocked out in the quarterfinals by Germany in 2023, despite a highly impressive preliminary round. At the 2024 World Championship, Switzerland was only defeated in the semifinals by the Czech Republic.
